Choose any two shapes from the geometric shapes pictured below.
Now that you have chosen your two shapes, your task is to find something that is alike about the two shapes you have chosen and something that is different.
Dora Explorer, K-1 I picked the circle and the oval. They are the same because they both are round. They are not the same because the circle is fatter than the oval.
Diego 2-3 I picked the square and the rectangle. They are the same because they both have angles in them. They are not the same because the square has 4 sides that are equal. On a rectangle only the opposite sides are the equal.
Hannah Montana - 7-8 I chose the cube and the square. The length of the sides of both the cube and the square are equal. They are different because a square is 2D and a cube is 3D. Another difference is a square has four edges, one face, and four vertices. A cube has 12 edges, six faces, and eight vertices.
I chose the hexagon and the square. They are the same because they both have equal sides. They are different because the angles on the square are all 90 degrees and the angles on the hexagon are 120.
I transitioned to education 20 years ago when I accepted a position as a preschool teacher. Shortly thereafter I moved to K-12 public schools where I truly found my passion, sharing my technical expertise with students, teachers, and administrators both from the classroom and as District Technology Coordinator. In July 2000, I joined the GRREC staff as Technology Coordinator and in 2005 my position was transformed into Director of Instructional Technology and Support Services. During my tenure at GRREC I have been selected as a National Professional Development provider for Discovery Education, The Verizon Foundation and most recently for A+ Educators. I have received the honor of being named an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google Certified Teacher, and a Kentucky Colonel. I earned a Master of Science degree in Instructional Media Education, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
